Indications:
Osteoarthritis confined to a single compartment,
Intact ligaments (especially ACL),
Correctable deformity (varus/valgus),
Good preoperative range of motion,
Symptoms not relieved by conservative treatment.
Advantages for patients:
Smaller incision with less soft tissue damage,
Faster recovery and shorter hospital stay,
Less pain and blood loss,
Better range of motion and quicker return to daily activities,
Preservation of knee ligaments, resulting in a more natural knee feeling,
Improved comfort for ground-level activities (squatting, sitting cross-legged),
Bone preservation, allowing easier revision if needed.
In well-selected patients, UKR provides excellent function with a more “natural-feeling” knee compared to total knee replacement.
